First Leagues for Cross Country

With one leagues in the books, both Mason boys and girls are looking good. The girls took a tough loss to St. Johns, but still held strong taking second place at their first leagues, with the boy’s team taking third place. St. Johns had a very strong day, their team took first in both boy’s and girl’s races, but that didn’t discourage Mason, the team still pushed through. In cross country, points are determined by what place each individual runner comes in. For example, first place runner gets one point and second gets two and so on. In cross country, the lowest team total of points wins the meet or in this case, leagues.

This year, the first league meet was at Fowlerville High School on Tuesday, September 18th. The course was a fairly fast course, but one major struggle was still in play, the heat. The temperature got up to 85 degrees which did not make good running conditions. The open aspect of the course for the majority of the run forced the runners to be in almost constant sunlight.
The rough conditions didn’t assist many of the runners, despite this Mason still held their heads high and completed the runs. Neils Heiselt was the only one from Mason to get a new season record. Cecilia Stalzer got second place out of the seventy four combined varsity and jv girls runners. Zane Perrault took sixth and Ben Darmofal took seventh place in their race. Overall, both boys and girls pushed through and completed their runs on a day that was not ideal for running.
