The fire that caused Building Twentyone to perish, through only a small spark, took place this previous Sunday evening. The fire was caused by a simple spark, the works of a steel grinder. The spark fell on a piece of foam being used to make a new skateboarding ramp, the fire extinguisher was not enough to tame it.

Pastor Jared Stepp and Executive Director Benjamin Schartow are keeping an open mind about the unfortunate situation.

“A building doesn’t mean anything except the relationships and the people and the network, and that’s what matters. The love that’s being able to be poured in,”  Stepp said, according to WLNS.

Schartow tells WLNS that their mission to help young people find their passion and purpose in not over, and their vision is still ablaze. “We want to continue our mission, I think our mission is still to provide good values to students and help them find their passion and purpose, and we want to keep that mission and that vision alive,” Schartow said.

This damaging situation, although unfortunate, can provide a good lesson to locals on how to prevent a situation like this happening in your home. Although no one was injured in the fire, Assistant Chief for the Delhi fire department wants everyone to be aware that a fire like this can happen to anyone and it is important to have more than one exit in mind.
